NORTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY
incorporated in 2014
Dauntless Wine Co is a brand to recognize with the motto, “Wine with a Mission”. We had the pleasure of heading out to this Northern Willamette Valley tasting room located in Forest Grove, to spend some time with Ben of Dauntless Wine Co. We got to see his upcoming, brand new tasting room! Dauntless is very much worth the trip out to Forest Grove! They are located within an area among many other fine wineries and would make a perfect day out of the city and into a great part of wine country. Click here for the address to the tasting room.
Dauntless celebrates every wine label with military history, derived from battles, campaigns, or technological breakthroughs that changed the world. They tell a story with every label and honor the past! Much of the photography chosen for their bottles is taken by military photographers on the front lines. That’s just wild to think about. You can view all of their wine collection here.
Our Experience
Heidi and I had the entire place to ourselves, since the tasting room at this time is still under construction. Dauntless was actually on the 1st episode of Season 2 of Wine crush Podcast, go here to listen!
Dauntless has a lot in store for their new tasting room, and we’re so thankful to have seen it while it was still under construction. People can expect to have a comprehensive experience with wine, food (but not a full kitchen), music, gatherings, plus many others which we cannot speak of at this time. Downtown Forest Grove is in touch for a treat! We got all the feels inside of this space, the textures of all the elements alone will have even a fly on the wall feeling welcomed.
the environment
Immediately upon walking in it feels like you are stepping back in time. The aged brick, high ceilings, and military memorabilia convey all the nostalgia of what would’ve been a proper locale for the WWII era. There should’ve been a swing band in the corner greeting us with amazing music of the past, and on that note – they have super old school turntables and speakers that still function! Perhaps that’s what will power the music at the opening party? The reclaimed wood and bronzed bar top gives it a cool, warm feel that is inviting to sit, relax and definitely stay awhile. There are many more details to mention as they build this tasting room for you, which they plan to have an open house for on May 1st, 2019 during the farmers market, so keep updated on their social media and mailing list for announcements! click here for their website
the NEIGHBORHOOD
Just 25 miles west of Portland, is what used to be a small farm town – Forest Grove. Much of this historic downtown made of brick was developed in the late 1880’s. Enjoy the leisurely pace of the historic streets with their turn of the century architecture and stroll through the adjacent gardens and tree-shaded campus of Pacific University. If you’re going to make a day of it, carve out some time to explore the 40 specialty stores, antiques, coffee shops, restaurants, spas and galleries. The traditional village feel of downtown paves the way to fun and excitement.
Ben Martin. What a fun guy! Heidi already has a relationship built with him, so this personally was my first time meeting him and I can say it felt like we had been friends already.
Ben served as an Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) crewman with the 7th Marine regiment out of 29 Palms, CA, who in 2003 participated in the invasion of Iraq with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines. In 2004 and 2005 Ben deployed with the 31st MEU out of Okinawa, Japan.
On May 18th, 2017 Ben was awarded the Wine Studies “Emerging Leader” award for his efforts launching Dauntless Wine Company while attending the program at Chemeketa. His passion for wine, military history and the sharing of stories is mesmerizing and connects well with all who enter! It’s evident he enjoys to guide people through his wine to help those who want to understand the process and his wine way. Which makes him a perfect candidate for our Oregon Wine Wednesdays!

The Wines
OH, the wine We absolutely.love.his wine! The complexities of the reds and the passion for making a quality wine that is drinkable, complex and friendly is well shown. He loves to teach and let new wine drinkers explore the wine, feel comfortable and ask questions to embrace their own palates. That right there, is incredibly important bringing the pretentiousness put of wine! The Pinots are beautiful and complex, yet easy to enjoy. The Rosé Riveter is gorgeous color and just a great showing of Rosé. His labels are thoughtfully created that show the depictions of past wars and pays homage to what we fought for what we have today.
Dauntless recently bottled and released their new:
